School Prayers

Start of Day Prayer

Now before I run to play,

Let me not forget to pray.

To God who kept me through the night,

And waked me in the morning light,

In my work and in my play,

Be with me throughout the day.

Amen

Lunch Prayer

For food to eat and those who prepare it

For health to enjoy it and friends to share it

We thank you Lord

Amen

End of Day Prayer

God our Father I’ve come to say,

Thank you for your love today.

Thank you for my family,

and all the friends you give to me.

Guard me in the dark of night,

and in the morning send your light

Amen

Common Prayers

Our children also learn traditional common prayers and these form part of worship, celebration and masses.

  • The Sign of the Cross: A foundational prayer used to begin and end prayers or actions, invoking the Trinity.
  • Our Father (The Lord’s Prayer): A central prayer taught by Jesus himself.
  • Hail Mary: A prayer asking for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
  • Glory Be (Doxology): A short prayer praising the Holy Trinity.

Prayers that are central to Religious Education Directory and Prayer and Liturgy Directory

As part of the school’s RE Curriculum these are taught in line with the RE progression. Where appropriate these prayers are integrated into class and whole school worship.
